About this video
A tiny ball can carry the beginning of a tree. Seedballs Kenya coats indigenous tree and grass seeds with salvaged charcoal dust and binders, helping protect them before suitable conditions arrive. People and partner organisations distribute the seedballs across selected areas where vegetation has been lost.
The appeal is simple: make it easier to return locally appropriate seeds to damaged land. Growth still depends on rain, soil, grazing and the species chosen. This episode looks at an accessible restoration idea, with a reminder that sowing needs permission, local ecological knowledge and follow-up, rather than scattering any seed anywhere.

The project offers seedballs through its website, and team member Teddy Kinyanjui published a July 2026 update on its restoration work.
