About this video
What if the rain a dry landscape needs is already falling, but flowing away too quickly? In Tanzania, local communities working with Justdiggit dig half-moon water bunds. These earthworks slow runoff and give water more time to soak into degraded soil, helping existing seeds and grasses find better growing conditions.
This episode follows an approach built around local knowledge, patient work and the land’s own capacity to recover. It is not a recipe for turning every desert green: rainfall, slope, soil and grazing all matter. Choosing suitable restoration methods with local specialists is part of the idea itself.
